Helene M. Finlayson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helene Marie Finlayson, age 59, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, companion, sister, aunt and friend on Thursday December 24, 2020 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Florence, July 18, 1961, Helene was the daughter of Helen (Pero) Drake and the late Alexander Finlayson. Helene was a very private person, who loved a good laugh sometimes at the expense of herself. She loved to sit at the beach, watching the ocean and the sunrise. She was often found through the years cheering on those that meant the most to her at baseball fields and hockey rinks. She also thoroughly enjoyed visiting her sister-in-law’s trailer at the lake. Most of all she loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Helene is survived by her mother Helen (Earl) Drake, companion Sheldon MacPherson, sons Devon (Alyssa), Mill Creek, Chris, North Sydney, Jordan (Taylor), Yarmouth. Helene’s memory will be cherished by her grandchildren; MaKenna, Drew, Maci, Nathan, Aria and Ellie. Helene also leaves behind sisters, Jane (Donnie) Dunphy, Wendy (Pearce) Abbott, Sandra (Alex) Anderson, Kathy (Sandy) Dupont, all of North Sydney, Dorothy (Martin) Dipaolo, Ontario, Johnena Finlayson (Charlie), North Sydney, brothers, Alex (Lynn) Finlayson, Florence, Danny (Nicole) Finlayson, Edmonton, many nieces and nephews. Helene will be remembered by her stepmother Annette Finlayson, special friends Cathy Tobin and Ida Marshall and by her beloved dog “Tucker”.
Besides her father Alexander, Helene was predeceased by her sister-in-law Jan Finlayson and nephew Danny Christie.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Cape Breton Cancer Centre, Dr Saliba, palliative care at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, especially Susan and Amy, Dr. Andrew Wawer and nursing staff at 4West, Northside General Hospital.
By request there will be no visitation. A private funeral service will be held in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating.
