Helen (Rempel) Zacharias, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
Helen was born January 12, 1932 on a farm near Hepburn, SK to John and Helen (Fehr) Rempel.
Helen was predeceased by her Father John, Mother Helen; brothers, Isaac, Sam and Jake; sisters Mary Figley and Tina Pedde, father-in-law Aron, mother-in-law Agatha, brothers-in-law John Wilson, Roy Figley, David Zacharias, Henry Zacharias, Abe Zacharias, Aron Zacharias, Norm Fisher, Herb Pauls, Charlie Pauls; sisters-in-law Gertie Rempel, Helen Fisher, Kathy Vanstone, Susanna Pauls, Margaret Zacharias, Annie Zacharias, Susana Zacharias, Chris Zacharias.
She is survived by her husband Cornelius (Neil), daughters Sandy (Niall) Preston, Linda (Jack) Peters, sons Andy (Roxane Smith), Steve (Christie Vanderkooi). She had 10 grandchildren: Les (Anna) Siemens, Calvin (Kristine) Siemens, Darryl Siemens, Sherry (Heinz) Klassen, Mike (Jaimie) Peters, Trevor (Joanna) Peters, Ashley (Grant) Schreiner, Brendan Smith, McKenna Nelson; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Hayden, Rowan, Reagan, Jayden, Jace, Emily, Fayth, Benjamin, Addisyn. She is also survived by a brother, John (Rose) Rempel; sisters, Sarah Wilson and Ann Cayer; sisters- in-law Alvina Rempel, Agatha Funk, brothers-in-law Isaac Zacharias, Jake (Barbara) Zacharias, John (Phyllis) Zacharias.
Helen grew up on a farm near Hepburn. She met Neil and they got married in Rosthern on August 2, 1953. Helen loved to cook and bake, sew in her younger days and volunteer for the Salvation Army and community. She took in 174 emergency foster children and loved them all equally. Her last few years, she struggled with her health but her will power and love of life allowed her a few more years with her husband and family.
A come-and-go viewing will be at Martens Warman Funeral Home (402 Central Street West, Warman) at 7:30 pm on Monday, June 8. Please respect social distancing at this time. A private funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at Martens Warman Funeral Home.
