Helen Elliott
1947 ~ 2020
Pointe-du-Chêne – Helen Dawn Elliott, nee Culligan, passed away on November 25, 2020 with Will and Beth at her side, at Moncton City Hospital following a long period of declining health. Her attempt to fill each day with industry and socializing was carried on for as long as humanly possible.
Helen was the youngest of three daughters of R. Meryln Culligan and Helena (Pat) Culligan, nee Carr. She was born in Fredericton, NB, on April 8, 1947, attended Kindergarten in Liverpool, NS, was a Grade One student at the elementary school on Broadway, Woodstock, NB, and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1966. Upon completion of her Grade 12 diploma she was gainfully employed at a finance company. In 1970 she moved to the Moncton area and eventually followed in the footsteps of her Father, Merlyn becoming an entrepreneur. Until her retirement, her business involved selling and maintaining recreational vehicles.
She wed Henry W. Elliott in 1966 and together they welcomed their son William Ralph Elliott. Two years after Henry’s demise she and Will moved to Moncton making a new start which ultimately led to her long and loving association with Fred Bourgeois.
She and Fred shared many years together working side by side at their business Maritime Custom during the day while spending time with family and friends at their home in Pointe-du-Chene on week-ends and holidays. Fred passed away on
June 25, 2017.
In 2003 Helen along with Danny Bourque and Moril Leger initiated the Shediac Motorcycle Rally and over the 15-year period she was involved, raised $141,000 for sick children. Helen was a significant contributor to the planning of this annual event. She enjoyed cruising on her Suzuki motorcycle over the tarmac of New Brunswick and beyond, including the New England States, a familiar area from her youth where she vacationed with her Mum and Dad.
Helen leaves to mourn her son, Will (Beth), step son Kim Bourgeois (Verna), step daughters Kathy Bourgeois and Kris Bourgeois, grandchildren Liam, Ren, Jennifer, Sarah, Michael, Jamie, great-grandchildren Taylor Grace and Andrew Sullivan, and former daughter in law Susan Bourgeois who remained a good friend to Helen throughout her years. To be missed by her caring sister June White and husband Rick of Ontario. Henry’s sisters, Deanie Steeves (Gord) and Judy Elliott, Fred’s sister, Marjorie Babineau (Victor) who were ever faithful and consistently helpful and supportive to Helen. She will be remembered by nieces and nephews as well as many cousins from the Carr and Culligan clans and never to be forgotten a wide network of lifelong friends, near and far.
Anyone who knew Helen, will remember her delight in cribbage, especially when she skunked her son and grandson! Along with her ever present Diet Pepsi, her Putty Cat gave her much joy and comfort over the last 14 years.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, her sister Eileen, her husband Henry, her partner and soul mate Fred.
Visitations will be held at Passage in Shediac Bridge (3754, Route 134) on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM and on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 from 1PM until time of the Memorial Service at Passage Funeral Chapel at 2 PM. Covid precautions will be followed (maximum 25 people) and masks will be required. The funeral will also be live streamed at www.facebook.com/PassageFH/ .
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the Moncton City Hospital, especially Dr. Pam Mansfield who went above and beyond to permit Will and Beth to be with Helen at the end in these Covid times.
