Haviland Tony Lyons
1960-2020
On March 6th, Haviland Tony Lyons (known as Tony for most of
his life, but in recent years he increasingly went by Haviland Jr)
passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital surrounded by family
after a short illness.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Pooley); his
children, Bethany and Chad; his dogs, Cheech and China; his parents,
Haviland and Yvonne Lyons; his siblings Mildred (Dale) Gallagher, Barb
(Allan) Cardinal, and Rocky (Sheila) Lyons; and many nieces and
nephews.
A life-long New Brunswicker, Tony grew up in Penniac and
lived in Riverview since 1980. During his 59 years, Tony was a hockey
player, heavy equipment mechanic and service manager, community
college instructor, and drag racer. Generous with his time and skills,
Tony threw himself into activities he was passionate about; this led
him to be a minor hockey coach and president of the New Brunswick Drag
Racing Association. He had (mostly) excellent taste in classic rock,
was a true jack of all trades (and a master of some) and had a wealth
of truly unique sayings. Given the choice, his jersey number was
8.
Liz, Beth, and Chad are deeply grateful for the excellent
treatment he received from Ambulance New Brunswick and the Moncton
Hospital. A special thank you to the Neurological Intensive Care Unit
and particularly nurses Nicole and Scott who cared for Tony as well as
his friends and family.
Family, friends, and students are welcome to join a
celebration of his life which will take place on Saturday, March 14,
2020 from 3-5:30 PM from to Cobb’s Funeral Home and
Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine, Rd. Riverview (869-2007). Donations
to the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated
by the family. Online condolences can be expressed at www.cobbsfuneralhome.ca
