Harry Grattan Jr.
7 Jan 1936 – 17 Dec 2020
The family of Harry Grattan Jr. wishes to announce his passing, which occurred at his residence following a brief illness. Born at Doyle’s Brook, Harry was the eldest son of the late Harry and Mary Ellen (Walsh) Grattan. A woodsman since his youth, Junior spent his early years working for his father cutting and hauling wood near the family homestead. In the late 1960s, life brought Junior to Ontario where he applied his skills working in factories and delivering their products throughout southern Ontario. Harry returned to the Miramichi and continued to work in the family business for many years. Harry retired to a quiet life and found support and care from the staff at Kelly’s Special Care Home (Quarryville), the Miramichi Senior Citizen’s Home, and most recently at Shannex Bridgeview Hall.
Harry is survived by his sisters Alice Loubert (Nathan) of London, Ontario, and Rose Marie Burns (the late William), of Newcastle; his brother Reg (Mona) of Doyles Brook; sisters-in-law Theresa Regan and Barb Regan; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Harry was predeceased by his half-siblings Benedict Regan, Murdoch Regan, Andrew Regan, and Mary Soucie-Matheson.
There will be no visitation due to Covid-19 restrictions and, per his wishes, a private family service will be celebrated at the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel, at a later date. Burial to take place at St. Edward’s Cemetery, Chelmsford, later in the spring.
In Harry’s memory, donations may be made to a memorial of one’s choice. Messages of condolence can be sent through our website: www.bellsmeadows.com
