Obituary
Unexpectedly at his home, while doing yard work, on Tuesday April 7th, 2020 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Hannelore Wedmann (nee Hoffmann) for over 62 years. Loving father of Karen (Roger) and Michael (Lisa). Greatly missed by his grandchildren Garrett (Melissa), Nicole (Geoffrey), Luke and Carleigh and his great grandson Emmitt. Predeceased by his brother Roland. Also lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends that loved him. Guenter was born in Berlin Germany. He married his bride Hannelore in 1957 and immigrated to Canada, landing in Halifax at Pier 21, and then travelled by train to Toronto where they lived until 1969, when they moved to Haliburton. He proudly called Haliburton his home until his death. He was a very proud Canadian Citizen, never missed an election. Guenter began working at Haliburton Forest and Wildlife in 1970 and worked there until his retirement 30+ years later. Guenter was also a small businessman, with a snowmobile dealership in the 1970’s followed by a repair shop and general store for many years, as well as serving the campers and cottagers in the Kennisis and Redstone lake area as a handyman, building additions, decks, tree removal service and more. He loved to visit with his family and friends and could often be heard sharing his wisdom and strong opinions on a wide variety of subjects. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, ATV’s and snowmobiling. He will be greatly missed!
