Gordon’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the families of Gordon Cyril Barnes announce his passing at his residence in Trout River surrounded by his loving son, Shawn and family on June 24th, 2020 at the age of 71 years.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his daughter Kelly (Kenny), his son Shawn (Emily), his grandchildren Stephanie, Jeremy and his precious baby Sage, his brothers Curtis(Ethel), Boyde(Maxine), Stanley(Lucy), Herman(Darlene), Donald (Thelma), Eddie(Carolann), and Sidney(Glenda), his sisters Hursie(Fred), Rosie (the late Robert) Elsie(Fred), Ennett(William), Fronie(Ralph), Patsy(Charles), and Faye(Gary). Gordon was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years Sandra Geraldine Barnes, his parents William Augustus and Flossie Rhoda and his brother Ronald Barnes, parent-in-laws Scott and Flora Brake and sister-in-law Verna Brake. Also, leaving to mourn in-laws Henry (Ivernia), Maurice (Sharon) and Bill (Angelica), Special friends Wayne & Peggy Park, a large circle of nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
Gordon was an outgoing and respectful person with always a helping hand. He committed himself to his family beyond any other role he held. Gordon began his career fishing with his father, followed by a maintenance job in Ontario, only to return to logging and fishing. Later, he held a position with the Department of Transportation followed by his position as a Janitor and School Bus Driver with the Western School District at Jakeman All Grade. Gordon enjoyed the time he worked around the students and staff to retire after 24 years of service in 2008.Gordon also enjoyed his involvement in the community through several years of service with the Trout River Volunteer Fire Department and 12 year term with the Trout River Town Council. Gordon had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a little company. He loved the outdoors- hunting, fishing, wood cutting and boil ups!
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the cancer care & palliative care units at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, BNRN Melina Payne, Dr. Armstrong, and Dr. Hughes.
Due to the Covid-19 Government regulations there will be a private viewing for immediate family members and the funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 27th, 2020, at 3:30 pm where a celebration of Gordon and Sandra’s life together will be held with Sandra Pinksen (Mul) officiating. In respect of Gordon’s wishes cremation will take place. The interment will be announced at a later date.
