Gloria Jean Yorke
1940-2020
Gloria Jean Yorke – 80, of New Minas, formerly of
Black Rock, Kings County, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at
home. Born in Berwick, she was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph
and Thelma (Franke) Doherty. Gloria was a member of the Black Rock
Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Black Rock Culture and
Recreation Hall and New Minas Highland Seniors, holding different
positions in each. She enjoyed cooking in her younger years, sewing,
knitting, crocheting, puzzles and bingo. She is survived by daughters,
Wanda (Briant) MacDonald, Black Rock; Janet Cochrane, ON; son, Donald
(Sylvia) Yorke, Black Rock; sisters, Sylvia (Art) Hamilton, Kentville;
Juanita (Allen) Deveau, Kingston; five grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren; sister-in-law, Freda (John Aker). In addition to her
parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; companion, Elmer;
brothers-in-law, George, Robert and Richard. There will be
no visitation. A private funeral service will be held in the Black
Rock Baptist Church, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Those
attending the private funeral service will be required to wear masks.
Burial will take place in East Black Rock Cemetery, Kings County. Due
to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, there will unfortunately not be
a reception held. Donations in memory may be made to Canadian Cancer
Society of Nova Scotia, Diabetes Canada or Heart and Stroke Foundation
of Nova Scotia. An online webcast of the service will be available at
2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Funeral arrangements have been
entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
