Genevieve Rose
Julian – 88, Millbrook
First Nation, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family,
on Friday evening, April 10, 2020, at her home. Born in St. Stephen,
New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Ella
(MacDonald) Knockwood.
Genevieve was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church,
Millbrook First Nation. In earlier years, she owned and operated her
own hair dressing business. She was a master craftswoman who taught
bead and leather work all over Nova Scotia. Genevieve was sought out
to do bead work for Queen Elizabeth II’s outfits when she
visited Nova Scotia. She was the matriarch of our family and she was
so very proud of her family spanning five generations.
Genevieve is survived by her children, Jane Johnson, Ella
Paul, Edward « Sonny » (Lisa) Julian, Valerie Meader,
all of Millbrook First Nation; former son-in-law, James Johnson,
Millbrook First Nation; grandchildren, Vera Johnson, Gordie (Laura)
Johnson, Judy (Alger) St. Jean, Genevieve Augustine, Dougie Johnson,
Laura Johnson, Lloyd Paul II, Luke (Brooke) Paul, Santana (Chance)
Roode, Derek « DJ » (Jamie) Higgins, Rosalie (Tevin)
Brooks, Thomas Julian (Katrina Meleti), Zachary Julian (Samantha
Woelk), Nyanza Julian, Andrew (Julie) Johnson, Sheila Johnson, Howard
(Abby) Johnson; several great grandchildren; one great-great
granddaughter; sister-in-law, Harriett Knockwood,
Sipekne’katik First Nation; several nieces and nephews;
Godchildren, Anita Maloney, Stephen Knockwood, Natalie Gloade, Theresa
Morris.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Thomas Edward Julian; daughter, Rosalie Johnson; sons-in-law, Stanley
Johnson, Lloyd Paul, Gary Meader; grandson, Matthew Meader; brothers,
John (Geno) Knockwood and Clarence Knockwood.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Mass of Christian Burial will
be held at a later date in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church,
Millbrook First Nation, followed by the interment in Sacred Heart
Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Genevieve’s memory to
Lung Association of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
