Garfield Francis Snow
1953 – 2020
Millville
On Monday, September 7, 2020 in the home he proudly built, Garf joined his parents Gordon and Catherine (Steele) Snow in eternal rest. With courage, strength and optimism, Garf fought his illness with dignity.
Garf’s life was his family. He was a devoted husband of 44 years to his wife and best friend, Laura. A loving father to his children Julie (Robert) Howatson, Tracy (Peter) Gallant, Gordon, Cara and Joy (Stephen) Murray and proud “Papa” to his grandchildren Nole, Mackenzie, Ava, Brody and Adelyn. He was very proud of his children and of their accomplishments. He took great pride in saying “All my children graduated from St.FX!”. Garf was a beloved brother to Brenda (Jamie) Power, Blaine (Karmie) Snow and Wanda (Darrell) Bond and caring uncle to his nieces & nephews.
A carpenter by trade, Garf was a member of United Brotherhood Carpenters Local 1588. He began his career with Northern Construction (Jack Carmichael and Joe Glogowski) and worked for a short time at the Sico Steel Plant. For the last 43 years he worked for Joneljim Construction (John Yurchesyn, Nelson Latimer & Jim Kehoe). Garf was a dedicated, trusted and loyal employee and was very proud of each project he had worked on and supervised over the years. During his career he had met many wonderful people to whom he highly respected. He never forgot a face but for names, he called everyone “Mister”.
Garf enjoyed attending baseball & hockey games of his children and grandchildren. He never missed a game or practice. He treasured family vacations to PEI, Florida and visiting his children in Alberta & Ontario. Garf loved music and was always up for attending concerts. He also enjoyed sharing a good laugh amongst friends. He had a great passion for antique cars, going to car shows and weather permitting, you would find him out cruising in his 1972 yellow Mustang.
Garf and his family would like to thank their family, friends, neighbors & co-workers who offered support during his illness. Words cannot express our gratitude especially to Andy Jessome & Wayne Snow for always being there. A heartfelt thanks to the caring, compassionate and professional nurses of the VON, Palliative Care and Cancer Center. A special thank you to Dr. Ignacio, Dr. Khodadad, Dr. Beecham, Dr. Poularde, Dr. Abboud, Claudette Taylor and Rhonda MacNeil.
Visitation for Garf Snow will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Covid 19 restrictions will apply in the funeral home. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, at 10:30 in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Because of Covid 19 restrictions, seating in the church is limited, but all are welcome at the cemetery. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
