Obituary of Fred Hatch
Frederick Lloyd Hatch was born February 15, 1947 in Brandon Manitoba and raised on Pleasant Dawn Farms in Oak Lake Manitoba. He joined the RCMP May 12, 1967 and after training was posted to his first detachment in Ituna Saskatchewan and later in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. After coming to BC he was stationed in Trail BC for 3 years then transferred to the lower mainland in June 1973 where he remained until retirement May 12, 2003. He served in several detachments throughout the lower mainland primarily Vancouver Drug Section. The last 10 years of service he was in charge of Protective Services where he had the honour and privilege to meet many visiting dignitaries and world leaders.
He is survived by Jo his wife of 50 years, daughter Laura ( Stephane ) grandchildren Alex and Chloee, son Lincoln (Sarah) and grandchildren Mason and Isla, son Tyler (Pam) and special niece (our 4th child) Lorena (Hutch) and Kelti. Also survived by family, brother David, brother Tully (Arlene); niece Debbie (Ken) Carter (Nicole), Cole and Austin, Kevin (Suzanne) Brooklyn, Tyson and Reagan, Trent (Ashley) Savery, Sefton, Hollis, and Bristol, sister Mary (Jack); Jacquelyne and James.
His love for gardening and landscaping was somethings he enjoyed all his life but particularly in retirement. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2012 and fought a long hard battle against this ravaging disease. It robbed him of many things but most especially difficult was his progressive aphasia leading to an almost inability to speak and communicate. He always loved to tell stories and jokes and loved to laugh so this was particularly devastating.
Fred passed away August 18, 2020 at Langley Memorial Hospital letting Alzheimers win that battle but went on with great faith and triumphed free winning the war!
He was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church in Langley and embraced his Catholic faith to the end. Many thanks to Deacon Dan Ritchie for visiting Fred and Father Patrick Chisholm for his care and attention.
Fred had an immense love for animals and over many years enjoyed our dogs, cats, budgie birds, rabbits, and guinea pigs. Fred often joked that we had everything but a giraffe! He mourned the loss of them all but most notably our dog Mugsy and our 20 year old cat Pudd who died in his arms March of this year.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church Tuesday August 25 at 10:30 am, Father Patrick Chisholm officiating. Due to rigid covid restrictions unfortunately church attendance must be limited to family members and invited guests only. Live streaming is available for those not able to attend.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Fred
