Foon Lok Lum Friday April 10th 2020

She was predeceased by her husband Alec Lum and parents Yiu Lai and Lam Shan Chiu, brother William, sister Yim Kim and youngest daughter Deanna Sisler. She leaves in mourning her son Alec Jr.; daughter Marjorie (Yale) Chochinov, grandchildren Jordan (Alexa), Tyler (Jane), Elan (Carmen), great grandchildren Micah and Kiba Chochinov; son in law John Sisler, grandchildren Aiden (Jairo), Warne (Alyssa) and Kieran Sisler; brother Howard (Helen), nephews Edward, Andrew( Amber), great nephew Alex, nieces Theresa, Cathy (Mike) Lee, great nephews Lucas and Joshua; sister Pat (Alex) Rheault, niece Jessica (Clint) VanWalleghem, great niece Shai, great nephew Jayden, nephew Zachary; sister in law Lina Sy, nephews Wilbert (Miles), great niece Beatrice, Wilson (Gin) from the Philippines as well as many other nieces and nephews throughout North America.
Foon Lok was born in Suekai-Sunwai, Kwangtang, China, completed high school in Canton, survived WW II and fled to Hong Kong after the Communist takeover in 1949. She married Alec Lum, a successful Canadian restaurateur in 1950. A particularly proud moment was when they and daughter, Marjorie, represented the Chinese Canadian community in meeting Queen Elizabeth II upon Her Royal Majesty’s visit to Winnipeg on July 25, 1959. They raised their family in south River Heights while enjoying gardening, travelling and entertaining their friends and relatives. Playing Mahjong was her passion and favorite pastime. She enjoyed being a products demonstrator at Eaton’s for over 20 years and volunteering at Folklorama and other community events. She was an amazing cook, a skillful knitter and greatly admired for her graceful beauty, thoughtfulness and kindness.
Overcoming language barriers, learning Canadian customs and traditions, enduring long cold winters, demonstrated her intelligence, strength, courage and resiliency to survive while creating additional memories for a new life in a new world. In doing this she enabled her mother, father and siblings to immigrate to Canada so that they too could find and have better lives, free democratic lives. Her selfless love, sense of duty and care for her family and particularly her grandchildren, was truly exceptional and will be deeply missed. May she find eternal love, happiness and tranquility to forever rest in peace.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the hard working dedicated staff at Charleswood Care Center for their patience, professionalism and compassion.
