MacLean, Elizabeth Marion
« Betty », age 80, of Addington Forks Ext.,
Antigonish County, passed away on July 31, 2020 in St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in South Harbour, Victoria County, she was the daughter
of the late George Angus and Martha Mary (Daisley)
Fitzgerald.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her
greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren who called
her « Nanny Clain », and her sugar cookies were loved by all.
Her greatest passion was teaching and education. She was very proud to
have attended Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional School and graduate
alongside her eldest daughter. She then attended StFXU and received
her BA with Honors and Major in English & History, and then
onto her Bachelor of Education. She returned to Dr John Hugh Gillis to
begin her teaching career there. Betty continued to tutor many
students even after her retirement, including her grandchildren. She
loved golf and bingo. Betty co-owned and operated the Beach Side Motel
in Pleasant Bay for several years. Her and Bernie loved their home in
Florida where they spent many winters. Betty also loved camping and
spending time at the lake. During her cancer treatments her special
friend « Margie » was so dear to her. She missed her dearly
after she moved. After her diagnosis with cancer Betty’s
inspirational Celtic quote that got her through the difficult times
was « The devil whispered in my ear, you are Not strong
enough to withstand the storm. I whispered in the devils ear. I am a
child of God, a woman of faith and warrior of Christ. « I AM THE
STORM ».
She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Bernard
« Bernie »; daughters: Cindy (John) MacPherson; Cathy (John)
Ferguson; Daphne (Bernard ) Deveau and Kim (Bennett) Timmons all of
Antigonish; grandchildren: Chevaunne, Jonathan, Ashley, Joshua and
Jerrica; great grandchildren: Austin, Colby, Jade, Taylor, Matthew,
Sadie, Nakhil, Shiloh, Jonangus, Josephine, Jayla and Julia; aunt,
Emma Godreau, Westmount and cousin Billy Fitzgerald,
Dartmouth.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Hymie
Fitzgerald; grandson, Bernie MacPherson and aunt, Lucy
Fitzgerald.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College
Street, Antigonish on Wednesday, August 5th
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Visitors are asked to a wear mask and
follow social distancing guidelines. A private Funeral Mass will be
celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph’s
with Father Lazurus presiding. Burial in the parish
cemetery.

Parish, 2730 Ohio East Road, Antigonish Co., NS B2G 2S3 or The SJ
Hillside Cemetery Association 1013 Hwy#4, Antigonish, NS B2G 2K8.
