ELISABETH HUPPERTZ
Peacefully on March 4, 2020, Lisa Huppertz passed away at the age of 99.
Lisa leaves to cherish her memories, in Germany, her stepdaughter Waltraud von den Bergen, stepson-in-law Dieter Stoffregen, and grandchildren, Martina and Cornelia Stoffregen, Gordon and Patrick von den Bergen, as well as three great-grandchildren, and in Winnipeg, her nephew Ewald Reinholdt (Marlene) and their daughters, Angela Gaspar (Joe), Loretta Reinholdt (Andy) and their grandchildren, and many friends in Gimli and Winnipeg. She was predeceased in 1992 by her husband Arnold and in 2019 by her stepdaughter Ursula Stoffregen.
Lisa was born on June 14, 1920, in Hamburg, Germany and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1951. She worked for two years at Parker’s Ladies Wear and for the next ten years at the Eaton’s Alteration Department for Ladies Wear, she was a qualified dressmaker by trade. In 1959 Lisa married Arnold Huppertz and they moved to Gimli in 1963, where they owned and operated the Lake Inn Restaurant. Arnold and Lisa worked very well together as a team and, after selling the restaurant, managed the Gimli Trailer Park during the summer months for several years until their retirement. Lisa was very active in the community. For a number of years she was the secretary for the Rural Municipality and Town of Gimli Development Corporation and a leader in the 4-H Club. She was a member of the German Society of Winnipeg and of the German Canadian Congress. In Gimli, she became a Life Member of the Gimli Women’s Institute, a Life Member of the Gimli Old Timers Association and for many years was the treasurer of both organizations.
After retirement in 1983 Lisa joined the Gimli New Horizons Club and was involved in many activities. Lisa was their treasurer for many years, became a Life Member, was the Bingo Chairperson for 20 years, stepping down when she turned 90. Over the years, Lisa travelled extensively in Europe, all over Canada and the USA, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, and on many cruises. She enjoyed all those trips tremendously.
In lieu of flowers, if friends and relatives so desire, donations in Lisa’s memory may be made to the Gimli New Horizon’s 55 Plus Centre, P.O. Box 1821, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0 or the Gimli Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 118, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0.
In keeping with the restrictions regarding COVID-19 a private ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. and friends are asked to watch a livestream of the service by going to her obituary at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com and clicking the link.
