Edward Emmanuel McCarron
1929-2020
McCarron, Edward Emmanuel, age 90, of Big Marsh, Antigonish
County, passed peacefully away on August 28 in St Martha’s
Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Eddie was born on Christmas Day, 1929, to Jack and Alice
(Grant) McCarron of North Grant, the fifth of fourteen
children.
Eddie grew up on the family farm in North Grant. He spent his
adult life working as a woodsman, also repairing power saws and small
engines. Eddie always took great joy in restoring antique equipment
and his projects which ranged from waterwheels to constructing a
working windmill. His skill as a water diviner was well known.
Throughout his life Eddie was a devoted church attender with the
Christmas season having a special meaning for him.
Eddie is survived by three brothers: Hugh (Margaret) North
Grant, Blaise (Martine), Halifax, Jerome (Judy) North Grant, godson
Daniel MacGillivray and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Alice (Grant)
McCarron, brothers John (Florence) North Grant, Leo (Mary) Lower South
River, Leonard (Mary) Lanark, sisters Mary (Basil) McCormick, New
Glasgow, Sadie (Lawrence) MacGillivray, Maryvale, Marie (Fred)
Walschot, Chicago, Rita (Everette) Cavenaugh, Maryvale, Phyllis (John)
MacGillivray, Maryvale, Evelyn (Jack) Chisholm, Hamilton, ON and an
infant sister, Rita.
An outdoor funeral mass will be held at St Mary’s
Church, Maryvale, Tuesday, September 1 at 2:00 pm with Rev Andrew Boyd
officiating. Donations in Eddie’s memory may be made to the
Cemetery Fund of St Mary’s Church, Maryvale.
The family wish to give special thanks to the staff of the
Highland Crest Home and the Palliative Care Unit of St
Martha’s Hospital for the kindness they have shown
him.
