WELL-KNOWN LOOKOFF RESIDENT PASSES
AWAY
E. Phyllis Blenkhorn – age 93, of Lookoff, Kings County,
passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020 in the Valley Regional
Hospital, Kentville.
Born in Canning, she was a daughter of the late Allen and
Emma (McCumber) Brown.
Phyllis worked with MT&T in the Canning office for a
number of years before leaving to work in the development of the
family business, « The Lookoff », campground and
restaurant, which was well-known for its weekend chicken dinners and
its famed observation tower. Phyllis was a long-time member and
faithful supporter of the Arlington Baptist Church. She was treasured,
and often called upon, for her vast knowledge of the community and its
people.
She is survived by sister, Elizabeth Turner, Aldershot;
brother, Allison (Marlene) Brown, Aylesford; special nephew, Mark
Turner (Misty and son, Kaleb) and his children, Kyle and Noel Turner,
all of Kentville; special niece, Tanya (Andrew) Justason, Regina,
Saskatchewan and her son, Braeden Hurshman, Mount Uniacke; many other
nieces and nephews; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Robert « Buss »; sisters, Elthea Sullivan, Kathleen
Lockhart, Jean Ward, Sheila VanMeekeren; brothers, Sheldon and Laurie,
and brother-in-law, Garnet Turner.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by
request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will take place
at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 in the Arlington Baptist
Church, Reverend Ivan Norton officating. Burial will take place in the
Arlington Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Arlington
Baptist Church, Children’s Wish Foundation, IWK or the
Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been
entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
