Dr. Morris Sabin
1925 – 2020
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Morris Sabin on Sunday, November 29, 2020 from COVID-19. Loving husband of the late Ellen Berlin for fifty-eight years. Devoted father of Harold Sabin and Dr. Norman Sabin. Son of the late Abraham and the late Rose Sabin. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Dorothy Grayson and Gene Bass; and brother-in-law of Gloria Berlin. Special uncle of Alan Grayson, Joan and Fred Cohen, and their families. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dr. Sabin graduated MDCM from McGill University in 1950. He did his internship at the Montreal General Hospital, and his Ob-Gyn residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital. He joined the Jewish General Hospital department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1957, and worked there for over 50 years. He was also on staff at the Catherine Booth Hospital and The Reddy Memorial Hospital, where he was departmental chief in the 1970s. He loved his work, and was regarded as a great teacher of medical students and residents.
Aside from his accomplishments in medicine, Dr. Sabin was the founding president in 1965 of the Quebec Association for Children with Learning Disabilities (QACLD). This organization helped children with learning disabilities, as well as their parents. The QACLD has since grown into the Learning Disabilities Association of Quebec (LDAQ / AQETA) and continues to help families throughout the province.
The last few years were not easy, with Alzheimer’s disease slowly ravaging a great mind. Thanks to Annette Reece and Mila Boodoo for providing the difficult home care needed. Thanks also to Maimonides 6 south staff for their care in the last few months.
Contributions in Morris’s memory may be made to an Alzheimer organization, or the Miriam Home. In lieu of COVID-19, a private graveside service will take place Wednesday, December 2nd, and Shiva will be strictly private.
2020
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Dr Morris Sabin 2020..
