Obituary of Dorothy Catherine Newman
NEWMAN, Dorothy Catherine (Nee Ferguson) – Peacefully with her family by her side, Dorothy Newman died at St. Joseph’s Hospice, on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at the age of 96. Beloved wife of the late Ford Newman (2012). Loving mother of Jennifer (John) Stewart, Sarnia and Kim Newman, Woodbridge. Cherished grandmother of Ryan (Maytal Kawolski) Gerofsky, Toronto, Liam (Jamela Austria) Gerofsky, Ottawa, Andrea (Adam) Juska, Calgary and Nicole (George) MacGregor, Airdrie. Proud great grandmother of Téa, Lila and Noah Gerofsky and Amelia and Clare MacGregor. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents William & Mary Ann Ferguson and siblings; John Ferguson, Evelyn Lindsay and Beulah Moninger.
Dorothy graduated from Chatham Public General Nursing School in 1944. She worked at various hospitals in Chatham, Toronto and Detroit. Dorothy was also the Industrial Nurse at the Glass Factory in Wallaceburg and the Public Health Nurse for the schools in Watford, Warwick and Brooke Townships.
Due to current COVID restrictions a private invite only visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Friday August 7, 2020. A private funeral service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 in in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel. Masks are mandatory in the funeral home. Cremation to follow with interment in Dresden at a later date. As an expression of sympathy friends who wish may send memorial donations to a charity of choice.
