1921-2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Dorothy (Harvey) MacDonald on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Georges River, she was the youngest daughter of the late John and Mary (MacKenzie) Harvey.
In her earlier years, Dorothy was employed at the Isle Royale Hotel and after raising her family, returned to work at the North Sydney Community Guest Home.
She was a life member of St. Andrew Church, Little Bras d’Or and after it’s closing, she attended St. Giles Presbyterian Church in North Sydney.
After selling her home, she moved into Parkview Apartments in North Sydney, where she quickly made friends with the residents and staff.
She is survived by her son Emerson (Jill Kelly), Halifax; granddaughters, Helen Croft (David), Bridgewater; Tracey MacKinnon (Scott) Saint Andrews, Antigonish and great granddaughters Alexandra and Scarlet MacKinnon, Saint Andrews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Roy and her son James; also, by two sisters Mary, Florence; brothers Harold, Creelman, John and Alexander.
A special thanks is offered to the nursing staff of 4West at the Northside General Hospital.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.
There will be a graveside service 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney, or Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
