Doris Marie Castle (Nee Zavitz)
It is with sadness the family of Doris Castle announces her passing at the age of 95 on December 4th, 2020, peacefully at Sprucedale Care Centre. Beloved wife for 54 special years of the late Norman St. Clair Castle (2003). Loving and devoted mother of Rick (Mary) Castle and Shirley (Rick) Livingston. Proud grandma of Jennifer (Adam), James (Mychelle), Michael (Stacey), Steven, John (Crystal), Phil (Kristin), Laura (Greg), and David. Predeceased by her siblings Allan Zavtiz, Louise Gordon, Donald Zavitz, Beatrice Casler, Gene O’Rourke, and Robert Zavitz. Doris will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends in the Poplar Hill and Coldstream communities.
To sum up Doris Castle in a few words…with her “happy go lucky” personality…she loved life!
In her younger years Doris worked at Service Lamp in London and then married the love of her life, Clair (lasting 54 years), and blessed with their two children Rick and Shirley.
Doris loved dancing with her husband Clair and spending weekends in the water at Port Franks with the boat Clair built. She was a very active volunteer in the Coldstream, Poplar Hill areas with the Women’s Institute, Tweedsmere History, Sewing Circle, Enviro Friends, Euchre Club, a 4H Leader and on the Poplar Hill Picnic Committee. For many years she also wrote a weekly Coldstream/Poplar Hill News column in the Age Dispatch.
Doris and Clair were also blessed with 4 wonderful grandchildren, Jennifer, James, Michael and Steven who were the delight of their lives. In addition, later in life she was blessed again with 4 step grandchildren, John, Phil, Laura and David.
Doris Castle’s family wish to express their gratitude to Dr. John Marcou and staff of Sprucedale Care Centre, for the excellent and compassionate care.
