Obituary
It is with heavy hearts the family of Donald K. Mercer, loving and devoted spouse of Dawn Shea, announces his passing on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Blaketown, NL on August 26, 1936 he was the son the late William and Elizabeth Mercer. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Greta Drover; son-in-law Russ Degnan; sisters-in-law Audrey Mercer and Casey Shea; brothers-in-law Eric Russell and Danny Shea.
Don worked for GlaxoSmithKline Inc for 22 years. He was a member of the YMCA and an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Saint John Sea Dogs.
In addition to his loving spouse of 45 years, Dawn, he is survived by his daughters Janice Degnan of Oshawa, ON and Laurie Anne Clinton (Beth) of Toronto, ON; cherished grandchildren Angela Sitaram (Sean), Ashley Maguire (Patrick) and Eric Degnan (Leslie); great grandchildren Nya, Kaden, Nicholas, Olin, Jackson, Austin and Charlie Rose; brother Gerald Mercer; sister Ada Russell; brothers-in-law Ronald Drover, Bill Shea (Jean) and Paul Shea (Mary); sisters-in-law Pat Roy (Ivan) and Paula Shea; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, a Celebration of Life will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 11 a.m. The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. until service time. A private family interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Remembrances in memory of Don may be made to the Bobby’s Hospice, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice. Due to allergies the family requests that you do not send flowers.
