Dolores Andrews
1938-2020
It is with profound sadness and regret that we announce the
passing of our precious Dolores M. (Garcia) Andrews on Monday, January
27, 2020, at the Glace Bay General Hospital, surrounded by her loving
family. Her death comes after a short and courageous battle with
cancer. A very heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Glace Bay
General Hospital (3-East) as well as the palliative care team for
their loving and compassionate care during her stay. A special thank
you to Dr. Ley for his many years of caring for her.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late
John Garcia and Gertrude (O’Handley) Garcia-Jackson. She
married the love of her life Booie Andrews in 1955. Together they
raised their 5 daughters. Dolores was an avid reader, enjoyed
attending many concerts and looked forward to her monthly outing to
the Penshioner Clubs. She had a gift at befriending anyone she met and
could make you feel very special.
Dolores is survived by her loving daughters,
Francine Crawford (Joe), Annette Maxwell, Itsy Neville (Leo), Gail
Andrews (Shawn), Paula Ransome (Billy), chosen daughter Karen Neville
(Harold); son-in-law Joey Neville; her sister Frances (Joe) Browne;
her cherished grandchildren, Travis (Lesley), Nadine (James), Kirk
(Sonya), Ryan, Andrèe (Francis) Hayley, Jessica
(Mitchell) and Tyler; affectionately known as « Nana Doh-Doh »
to her great-granchildren Abbie, Maya, Ella, Nora, Angel, Seth,
Carley-Jo, Kayson, Lincoln, Jace and Ariana; her special friend
Richard MacLean (whom she shared many laughs on the phone)
sisters-in-law Stephanie (Mark) Clarke, Mary Carroll, brother-in-law
Tommy (Theresa) Andrews; numerous nieces and nephews
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband
Booie; precious grandson Anthony Maxwell ; her step-father Jucky
Jackson; brothers Tony and Jackie and two siblings in infancy;
son-in-law Fraser Crawford; sisters-in-law Dunie (Willie) Virtue, Rene
(Clarence) LaBelle; brother-in-law Eddie Carroll.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, from
5-8 pm at Holy Cross Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 am
on Saturday, February 1, at Holy Cross Church with Fr. Norman MacPhee
officiating. The interment will be at a later date in St.
Joseph’s Cemetery, MacLeod’s Crossing. Family
flowers only. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Heart
and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences may
