Obituary
Peacefully in his sleep, Desmond Kelly passed away on Thursday August 20, 2020 at the age of 88 (or 22 if you are counting in leap years).
Dearly loved and missed by his soul mate and wife of 63 years Mary, his children Pam (Jim), Sean (Erin), and Kerry, and his four grandsons, Kevin, Daniel, Desmond, and Jack. Lovingly remembered by his sister Linda, sisters-in-law Cyprienne, Margaret Pat and Gayle (Morris), brother-in-law Art (Joyce), and many nieces and nephews. Anxiously awaited in heaven by his parents Leo and Zeilla, his brothers Orville and Leo (Bud), and his sister Rosemary, along with brothers-in-law Mike, Bob, and Leo.
Born in Temiscaming, Quebec, and a long-time North Bay resident, Desmond is well remembered as a forward with the Barrie Flyers and Temiscaming Royals, an Alderman on Temiscaming’s town council, an avid golfer, a dyed in the wool fan of Notre Dame Football, an actor in the burgeoning North Bay film scene in his later years, and a man of strong faith who served the Pro-Cathedral as an usher and was a founding brother of Temiscaming’s Knights of Columbus.
He was also a lover of music and poetry, known to recite verses to the delight of family, and a frequent patron of the North Bay Public Library.
Above all he was a wonderful father and husband who loved life, especially when experienced with family and friends at his camp on the shores of Lake Temiscaming.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Desmond on Tuesday, August 25 at 10 a.m. at the Pro Cathedral of the Assumption Catholic Church, 480 McIntyre St W, North Bay, ON.
Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Desmond to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice where he spent his final days in the best possible care. The family offers our sincere gratitude to the hospice, and to Dr. Wendy Graham for their excellent care and support. (nipissingserenityhospice.ca/).
