Dennis William Stenlund
(August 7, 1930 – November 29, 2020)
Dennis William Stenlund of Camrose, AB, formerly of Donalda, AB, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020, at the age of 90 years.
Dennis was born to parents Ole and Lilly Stenlund on August 7, 1930, on the family farm northwest of Donalda. He attended Donalda school and then started farming with his dad. In 1956 he married the love of his life, Victoria Olson. Together they raised three wonderful sons, Wayne, Craig, and Richard.
Besides looking after these three boys, Dennis was also a farmer raising crops, cattle, and hogs. He drove school bus for 40 years, retiring in 1995. In his « free time », he was part of the band « The Flying Dutchmen » playing for dances every weekend throughout central Alberta for many years.
Dennis was a loving husband and father, passing on life lessons to his sons. the boys say they can count on one hand the number of times their Dad ever got too excited about anything. He loved the time spent fishing, camping, and sharing stories around the fire. As the grandchildren came along they were able to share many camping trips with their Grandpa and Grandma. Family was the most important part of Dennis’ life. He always said, « if you don’t have family, you don’t have nothing ».
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Vickie; sons Wayne (Pat) of Stettler, Craig (Paula) of Galahad, and Rick (Elaine) of Bashaw; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Christa Wark (her children Makena and Ayla), Lyndsey (Mike) Wolansky (their children Brayden and Morgan), Brant (Kendice) Stenlund (their child Lanee), Brandon (Krista) Stenlund (their children Emrence and Charli), Nolan Stenlund, Trent Stenlund, Ashley (Mike) Cunningham, and Danielle (Scott) Hagstrom (their children Austin and Whitney); sisters-in-law Velma (Tom) Wedgwood, and June Johnson; brother-in-law Roger Olson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and special friends.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents Ole and Lily Stenlund; infant brother Harry; sisters Sadie (Bert) Anderson, Viva (Slim) Murat, Ruby (Albin) Bergstrom, and Evelyn (Arnold) Wagner; in-laws Oscar (Margaret) Olson, Vernon Olson, Mickey Johnson, Howard (Grace) Sawers, and Donna Olson.
A private service will be held. Inurnment will take place in the Donalda Cemetery.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Dennis’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
