Obituary
It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Robert Copeland, 87, of High River, Alberta. Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Lois (nee Holland), of 65 years; sons Robert (Lynn), Richard (Catherine), Thomas (Sandra); daughter Beverly (Charles Pester); grandchildren Warren (Kirsten), William (Lindsay), Steven (Stephanie), Sarah, Amy (Andrew), Alexandra, Lisa (Angela), McKenna, and Payton; great-grandchildren, Tretton, Sheena, Jack, Gavin, Blake, and Eli; as well as his sister-in-law, Donna Holland, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Doris Copeland; father and mother-in-law Robert and Ruth Holland; brothers-in-law Edward Maskoske, Rodney Holland, John Holland, and Mervyn McIntosh, sisters-in-law Doris Maskoske, Carol Holland, and Elaine (Mickey) McIntosh.
Dennis was born to parents Robert and Doris Copeland on July 5, 1933 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He spent his youth in Turner Valley, Alberta and later moved to Edmonton where he embarked on a long and rewarding career in the oil and gas industry, living throughout Alberta, in Trinidad, Venezuela, and subsequently in Calgary and Edmonton before settling in Calgary for the duration of his career. Upon retirement, he enjoyed many years residing in High River.
Dennis always enjoyed a round of golf and was rewarded with many lifelong friendships with this activity. He golfed at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club in Calgary, Highwood Golf Club in High River, and many varied courses throughout California where he enjoyed being a snowbird at his winter home in Hemet. Giving up golf at 85 was like losing a best friend.
Being an only child, Dennis embraced, and was welcomed into, the large Holland family when he married Lois in 1955. They subsequently welcomed their own large family, 3 sons and 1 daughter, 3 grandsons, 6 granddaughters, 4 great-grandsons, and 2 great-granddaughters. He enjoyed many family events, celebrations, and get togethers where he shared his wisdom, love of wine and good food. He led by example, the lessons of hard work and doing a job right. He will be missed beyond measure but his legacy will live on.
We ask that you take a moment to reflect on a life well lived and raise a toast to our dear husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend.
If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca).
