Obituary for Debralee Bro
August 2, 1961 – September 30, 2020
On September 30, 2020, the angels came and took Debralee Bro home. She passed away at home surrounded by family at 5:45am.
An amazing woman started her journey in life in Williams Lake, BC on August 2, 1961. She moved around a lot in her youth experiencing love, hardships, and everything in between; including the births of Richard (1979) and Rulanne (1981) which started the beginning of her true life’s course. She eventually settled in Grande Prairie, where she met her soulmate, best friend, and life partner Kris Bro. Debralee and Kris married on Sept 5, 1987 and shared 33 amazing years together. On their journey they lived a gypsy life full of adventures. From truck breakdowns to washing kids in rivers, life was always another adventure when Debralee was involved. They moved from Grande Prairie to Peterborough, ON, to Red Deer, AB, and finally back to Grande Prairie where Jana was born in 1988.
They tried life in Calgary, AB then to Armstrong, BC before they came back and settled down in Wembley, AB in 1994. This is when Debralee really blossomed; she always worked so hard for her family in many different positions throughout her life but settling down really triggered her inner entrepreneur. She started by running the Wembley Turbo until it turned into the Wembley Shell. Then she got working with a friend in his mobile concession and eventually bought it from him. She ran Debralee’s Kitchen for several summers, doing everything from shutdowns, to rodeos, to the Hythe Motor Speedway, Drag Wars, Motorcycle rallies, and much more.
Debralee ran Wembley arenas Concession Stand for a few winters, and then moved to the Grande Prairie Curling Club where her soup made Worldwide papers during the 2006 Ford World Curling Championships. In October 2011 she co-created the A 2 Zee Empire with her Husband and youngest daughter Jana. Debralee was always involved in her kids’ sports and when they were young, she would be found driving across the provinces to get them to bonspiels and tournaments, living curling club to curling club. As her kids got older, she still made sure she was front row at Roller Derby bouts and cheering them on in all their life’s passions. She loved getting to watch her grandkids in their sports too, going to Dog Shows, Taekwondo practices, and soccer games.
As if Debralee was not busy enough, she also cared tremendously about her community. She was a town Councilwoman for several years, a member of the Wembley Ag Society, and her biggest passion was working with Helen E Taylor Learn to Curl Program. This community and school involvement alongside the closeness of her kids and their friends, happily made Debralee the Town Mom, which eventually turned her into Grandma to MANY!
Debralee will be missed tremendously by so many people. She was outspoken, honest, loud, and funny. You were sure to leave a visit with Debralee with a smile on your face.
She is Survived by her loving and devoted husband Kris Bro, her mom Mary Kilback, her aunt Marlene (Milton) Fjeld, brothers Rick (Sharon) Kilback, and Alan Kilback, her beloved children Trevor (Danita) Bro, Richard (Ladina Lytle) Bro, Rulanne (Adam) Patry, and Jana Bro. The sparkle of her eyes, her grandchildren Haylie Bro, Dakota Clarke (Bro), Paige Bro, Maela Lytle, Emil Lytle, Cooper Patry, Leland Patry, Joel (Nataly) Telis, and Debra Telis. Debra and Maela gave her the title of Great-Grandma when Odin Telis, and Finley & Ezekiel Lytle were born. She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and MANY adopted sons, daughters, and grandkids that we would be listing for days! She loved you as if you were her own and you all know it!
Debralee’s strong will and passion will be missed by all, yet we all will carry a piece of her with us until the end of time.
As Debralee ended all her conversations, “I love you.”
