Our friend David Gardave passed away peacefully at his residence on December 21, 2020, two months shy of his 93rd birthday.
He was born in the city of lights, Paris France on February 2nd, 1928.
His father, a Czech diplomat, was posted to Montreal shortly after World War II, where David, then 17, enrolled in the Engineering faculty at McGill University, earning his B.Sc., Mechanical Engineering with Honours four years later. Always popular with his fellow students, he was elected President of the McGill Student body in his final year.
One of the greatest honours of his life was when he was awarded an M.B.A. from Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts.
However, David always believed that his greatest accomplishment was the raising of his three sons, Ralph, Kevin and Bruce. An avid skier, he had the boys on the slopes every weekend as soon as they could strap on skis.
Ending his career as an entrepreneur, professor (University of Alberta) and management consultant at age 75, David embarked on a new career. Pursuing his passion for Canadian History he started to take courses at the University of Winnipeg, earning his third degree, a B.A., at age 83. He also enrolled in art classes, demonstrating remarkable skill in this area as well. Did I mention that he wrote a novel too?
A man of refined taste, David loved good food, good wine, good whiskey and classical music.
In this time of great need, please join the Gardave family and donate generously to Knox United Church, Winnipeg, enabling them to continue their vital work in our inner city – a cause dear to David’s heart @ knoxwinnipeg.ca/donate/
Adieux dear friend,
