Darryle Pyke
Sydney Mines
It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Darryle Pyke, age 56, on Monday, September 7, 2020.
Born in Sydney Mines on June 25, 1964, Darryle was the son of the late Beverly Pyke-Tobin and Clarence (Hoopy) Pyke. Darryle graduated from Memorial High School in 1983 and married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Brenda Steele, in 1990. Together they had a beautiful daughter, Shelby, who was Darryle’s pride and joy.
Darryle worked at NAPA for over 30 years, where he was well-known for going above and beyond for his customers who were always greeted with a goofy smile and the occasional inappropriate joke.
Although Darryle’s life was cut short, he lived each day to the fullest and was well-known as the “life of the party.” He enjoyed spending time in the garage with his many friends watching sports and chatting. His infectious smile and laugh could fill a room and will be missed by so many.
Darryle is survived by his soulmate of 43 years, Brenda; his daughter, Shelby (Matt); his brothers, Maurice, Clarence (Denise), and Gordie (Jessica); his sisters, Patricia and Cathy (Georgie); his fur babies, Oliver and Molly; and many nieces and nephews.
Darryle will be welcomed with open arms by his mother, Beverly; father, Clarence; mother and father-in-law, Rose Steele-Mackinnon and Alex Steele; as well as Hector MacKinnon; and brothers-in-law Harvey and Glen Steele.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they’ve received from family and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020, at 10 am in Holy Family Church, with Fr. Fabian Ihunegbo officiating. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, seating in the church will be limited.
Darryle had a soft spot for all animals and gave very little protest when Brenda or Shelby brought home a stray kitten. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Feral and Abandoned Cat Society through their website at www.faacs.ca/donate. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
