CURTIS CHRISTOPHER BROOKER
September 26, 1957 – December 24, 2020
After a brave and exhausting 3.8 year struggle following a massive stroke, Curtis left on Christmas Eve morning to celebrate with his Lord and Savior and to be reunited with his beloved parents, Chris and Evelyn Brooker and only sibling, Patricia (Pat Puls).
Curt was born at Lake of the Woods District hospital and lived in 2nd West Bay, Keewatin his entire childhood.
It was a childhood rich with adventures on the river. Summers filled with swimming, fishing or rowing his little red boat over to Granny Murphy’s and Gilley’s Island. Winters of ice skating, fishing and snow mobiling, favorite destination- Granny Murphy’s!
His life was full with an abundance of community; he loved and adored the Murphy clan; aunties, uncles and cousins, his nieces and nephews as well as great and great, great nieces and nephews. His life rich with memories of the Alcock and the Schroeder families, the Gilley family, Smith family and the Barnard family to name only a few.
He attended Keewatin Public school and later Lakewood High. After graduation, he attended University of Manitoba and received his Bachelor of Science degree. Later, he moved to Winnipeg and was employed by Via Rail where he held various positions. The friendships he forged along his path were and remained his greatest treasures.
Curt was a curious character, to say the least.
His ability to remember historical events, facts, dates and names was uncanny- only to be eclipsed by his accuracy in knowing how many years had passed since any such given event had occurred.
He had a tremendous sense of humor and could not contain his laughter when it was triggered.
The last step of his journey was spent in the care of the staff at Birchwood Terrace. Again, as was his nature, he treasured the people around him.
A warm thank you to the nursing staff that made his last chapter comfortable.
A celebration of life will be postponed to a later date.
