Christine « Tena » Reid
1922-2020
After a full and blessed life, we announce the passing of
Christine Reta « Tena » Reid at the age of 97.
Until two days ago she remained in her own home and passed at
the Charlotte County Hospital in the early morning hours of June 10,
2020.
She was born on Christie Ridge to Cecil and Fannie (Kyle)
Christie, where she grew up on a farm.
She came to St. Stephen in 1939 at the age of 16 and worked
at the Ganong’s Candy Factory, telephone operator, as well a
waitress at Burns’ Restaurant.
During WW2 she was the belle of the ball and enjoyed going to
dances where the service men all thought the little redhead was the
best dancer.
She and her husband dated all through World War II, finally
marrying on January 6, 1947.
In 1952 She and Jack moved to Milltown and in 1954 they
opened Reid’s Superette. The store became the
focal point of Milltown where Tena met and kept lifelong
friendships. She worked there, alongside Jack and her
children until the store closed.
She then enjoyed her many grandchildren as each one came
along.
Tena enjoy preparing Sunday night suppers for her children
and grandchildren up until her health started to decline.
She was an avid bingo lover.
She is survived by her children, Ronald (Donna), James
(Cindy), Ann (Harry) and Thomas (Jo-Anne). Grandchildren
Jason (Matti), Katie (Sheldon) Jennifer (Brian), Nicholas (Wendy),
Shawna (Brian), Amy (Matthew), Jolene, Amanda (Lorne), Tom (Erin),
Jessica (Derrick) and Tasha (adopted granddaughter and caregiver) and
eighteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister,
Carol Ann (Lawrence) Little from Woodstock, and many nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John Harold (Jack), and
infant son Jackie. Also pre-deceased by siblings Charlotte
(Lottie) Lord, Dot Goode, Bea Skaler, Helen Corey and Jack
Christie.
The family will receive friends at The S.O. Mehan &
Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St Stephen, NB on Thursday,
June 11, 2020 from 6-8 PM.
Interment at Milltown Catholic Cemetery, Barter Settlement,
NB.
