Cavan was born on July 28th, 1931 to Annie and James Devlin in Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He died January 15th, 2020 after being given exceptional care at the Grey Nuns Hospital by the staff of the 51st ward.
He was the youngest of eight children, and often told stories of the trouble he got into growing up with his siblings. As a young man, he emigrated to Canada, crisscrossing the country working as a carpenter and on the D.E.W. line in the Arctic before meeting his wife, Geraldine (Geri nee Davis) at a dance at Sylvan Lake. They settled in Edmonton, and raised two sons, Christopher and Patrick, and one daughter, Leslie. No children were better loved than Cavan’s.
Some of the best times of Cavan’s life were spent at his cabin in Mulhurst on Pigeon Lake. He built the cabin himself, with the help of his family and friends. And it served as a gathering place for many generations. His eight grandchildren fondly remember bonfires, a homemade waterslide, and many silly stories told around the woodstove at the cabin. As an Irishman with the gift of gab, Cavan loved telling stories, some of them almost true.
Cavan was a man of simple pleasures and loved nothing more than a good meal surrounded by his loving family. He loved us all so much, and that love came back around to him in his last days. He spent his peaceful final moments in the arms of his family, with his daughter singing to him. His tradition of love will be carried on by his wife Geri, his son Christopher (wife Heidi, children Banon and Aria), his daughter Leslie (husband David, children AJ, Megan, Elodie and Mari), his son Patrick (wife Trish, children Brooklyn and Carson), his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Linda Davis and all their children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Bernadette in Bedford, England and Cousin Loretta in Dublin, Ireland.
The Devlin family extends his oft-repeated personal blessing to everyone. “May God bless you and keep you; may His face shine upon you and bring you peace.”

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 11:00 am at Providence Renewal Centre, 3005 119 St NW, Edmonton, with reception to follow at Derrick Golf and Winter Club, 3500 119 St NW, Edmonton.
