Memorial Donation
We are extremely saddened to announce the passing of Carolyn (Rowe) Martell, Monday August 3rd, 2020, at the age of 61, at the Strait Richmond Hospital. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Carolyn was born December 28th, 1958 in Sudbury, Ontario. She was the daughter of the late William Rowe and Pearl (Collins) (Rowe) Guthro.
She spent much of her childhood in Glace Bay, then moved to St. Peters, where she met the love of her life, Roger. They married and raised their two children in Rockdale.
Carolyn could always be found making beautiful creations out of anything; from her paper crafting skills to keeping her family warm on winter nights in her handmade quilts. Scrapbooking was a relaxing hobby that she used to save all her families’ memories. She had a wonderful zest for life that she used to grow her vibrant gardens, which she enjoyed while swimming in her pool. She was often found feeding the resident birds their daily meal and cuddling with her cats “The Girlies”, Riley and her precious dog, Rizzo.
Carolyn was a devoted wife and mother. She beamed with pride and absolute joy for her two beautiful granddaughters; they were the light of her life. When not at home making delicious meals and decorating for every holiday, she was found for many years fishing closely with her loving husband.
Surviving are her husband of 39 years, Roger; son, Garrett (Candice); daughter, Janelle (Joey); grandchildren, Nola and Ivy; sister, Joyce; brother, Kenneth (Sandra); step-brothers, Steve (Ann), Mick (Sherry); mother-in-law, Beatrice; sisters-in-law, Charlene (Shaun), Charmaine (George); brother-in-law, Steve (Anne Marie); along with her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her greatly as she had a beautiful soul who loved everyone for themselves.
She was predeceased by her step-sisters, Colleen and Sharon; step-father, Ivan; father-in-law, John; brother-in-law, Leo.
The family would like to greatly thank the nurses and doctors at the Strait Richmond Hospital and staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre for their kindness and care.
As per Carolyn’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Carolyn can be made to Dorothy’s Cat Sanctuary, River Bourgeois, Cape Breton.
