Obituary
We are blessed to have our lives touched by Carl (Karl) John Morela who died on December 19, 2020 at the Foothills Hospital in the company of his loving wife Nancy-Lou and family at the age of 77 years.
Carl was born December 14, 1943 in Videm dol Pri, Slovenia (formerly Yugoslavia), the youngest child of Karl and Christine Morela. The family immigrated as refugees to Canada in 1951, initially working on a sugar beet farm in Welling, AB before moving to Calgary. Carl met Nancy-Lou, his wife to be, in 1962 while attending St. Francis High School. They have been inseparable for 58 years and celebrated their 55th anniversary this past August.
Carl began work with the City of Calgary Transit Department in 1966 and concluded his long career after 33 years of service, retiring in 1999. He loved vacationing and cruising with Nancy-Lou, his family, and his friends, and eagerly awaited the next trip as soon as he was off the ship. Carl always enjoyed a good practical joke, watching hockey and football, debating politics, and his cherished dogs. He loved music, especially Elvis Presley.
He is remembered by his beloved wife Nancy-Lou; two daughters Juliann (Wes) and Susan (Darcy) who he truly adored; as well as his treasured grandchildren Logan and Evangelina. Carl is survived by his older brother Anton (Ingrid), and will be missed by numerous extended family and friends.
Carl’s extremely sudden passing due solely to a stroke has left us all bewildered and shaken. The family is grateful to have been able to spend Carl’s remaining moments in his company and are thankful to the staff at Foothills Hospital ICU for their caring accommodations.
A private funeral service will be held at Corpus Christi Parish with The Rev. Bogdan Sianozecki presiding.
