Bruce James Kennedy 1957 2020

Obituary of Bruce James Kennedy
Bruce James Kennedy, 62, died at his home on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Predeceased by his parents, Leroy James (Jim) Kennedy (1979) and Merle Genevieve (Knoll) Kennedy (2006), he is survived by his five siblings, Joy Kennedy of Toronto, Timothy Kennedy (Leslie) of Port Colborne, Margaret Opatovsky (Albert d.) of Crystal Beach, Deborah Clark (Greg) of Waterloo, Lorraine Mooney (Bill) of Calgary.
Bruce was the dear and loving Uncle of Kirsten Addis (Brent Wood), Phillip Addis (Emily Hamper), Miragh (Ross) Bitove, Dana (Chris) Rasch, Patrick (Anne) Kennedy, Ashley Kennedy, Albert James and Keith (Teresa) Opatovsky, Natalie (Claude) Daval, Billy, Connor and Kelly Mooney, and to his great nieces and nephews; Albert Joshua, Sebastian, Ethan, Turner, Jude, Reid, Lauren, Josephine, Theodore and baby June.
Born with a rare muscular condition, Bruce was determined to lead an active purposeful life in spite of it. His adventurous spirit led him to scouting in his youth traveling to Scotland with his Scout Troup, backpacking across Europe, parts of the Middle East and Asia in his 20’s and on many fishing trips to the French River in Northern Ontario over the years. He had a keen mind, always wanting to know exactly how things worked. He loved to work with motors and was able to fix just about anything he put his attention to.
A life-long resident of Port Colborne, Bruce attended Vimy, McKay, Port Colborne High School, and after graduation continued his studies at Fanshawe College, in London, Ont. He was loved for his sense of humor, imaginative storytelling, pranks & shenanigans, his stubborn sense of independence, but most of all for his kind compassionate nature. He had a true competitive spirit and spent many hours playing board games with his nieces and nephews, never relenting to let the kids win, they had to earn a win in Uncle Bruce’s eyes and they loved and respected him all the more for it. He enjoyed classic movies, was an avid reader, a WWII historian and a forever fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Bruce had many close life-long friends who had common interests and were a great support to him over the years. They shared many cups of coffee and great conversations on any number of topics while sitting on the front porch. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to all of his close friends and relatives for their continued love and support for Bruce especially during these last few years when Bruce’s health was declining.
Bruce had a deep faith and was a life-long member of St. James & St. Brendan Anglican Church. He and his close friend Jeanette Frenette-Lyons often shared their faith stories and had many long talks about their spiritual journeys. His life was truly a living example of one of his favourite bible verses “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. … And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself » (Matthew 22:37-39)
If you so wish, donations to Ducks Unlimited Canada. French River Stewardship Council or St. James & St. Brendan Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family.
