(1934 – 2020)
On August 12th our devoted husband, loving father, worlds best grandpa, dedicated brother, loyal friend, outstanding athlete, and all-around cool guy went to be with the Lord. Art was faithful and selfless, he loved his family and friends; gardening; cars; and sports including playing, coaching, and spectating. He was a regular at his grandchildren’s events and at the Kelowna Rockets games (thanks Ron for keeping that possible last season). He spent most of his youth between Revelstoke and Kelowna, also spending time in Vernon and Vancouver.
Art met Dorothy in 1963, and they settled permanently in Kelowna in 1968 and raised their family. He had a long and successful career in car sales, making lifetime friends of colleagues and customers. After suffering severe complications from surgery 20 years ago his life was dramatically altered but he still kept up his busy social schedule, meeting up with his coffee gangs, racing his grandchildren around, and at the age of 70 began a love/hate relationship with golf; the highlight of which was his hole in one at the age of 80! His grandson, Jackson, always enjoyed a day out on the course with Grandpa and his friends, learning a variety of new swear words! He was a classic and we will miss him, until we meet again.
Art is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; daughter Lisa (Doug); son Dan (Doris); son and sidekick John; grandchildren Jake, Alivia, Jackson, Nathan, Nick, Max, Emily and Megan (Evan); sister Mary Chamberlain and her family; Dorothy’s family; cousins, and many great friends. Predeceased by his beloved parents Art Sr. and Mary.
Art’s favorite charities were BC Children’s Hospital and BC Cancer Foundation so donations in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated.
There will be no public service by request, only a private Catholic funeral mass.
