Bonnie Sandala
Following a lengthy illness, Bonnie passed away peacefully at the age of 72 years on June 5, 2020 at WRH Met Campus, surrounded by her family through video feed. She was shy by a few months of celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary with her beloved husband George. Dearest mother of Kim Dobson (Johnathon), Mandy Sandala Harris (Kevin), Michael and Greg (Sarah). Cherished Baba to grandchildren Bromleigh, Aidan, Molly, Ella, Seva, and Naraya. Predeceased by her parents Norman (1975) and Ruth (2002) Collins and her dear siblings Wendy Michael (2011) and Wayne Collins (2019). Dear sister to Lynda Parsons, Erline Brus, Martin Collins and nieces and nephews Sherri, Stacy, Norman, Dwayne, Tige, Kori, Kia, Morgan. Sister-in-law to John Sandala (Gaye), nephew Drew and niece Keely. Devoted godmother also to Keely and Natalie Onuska.
Bonnie was a compassionate and generous support to every person and creature she met especially orphaned and abandoned animals. Known as a mender, and made possible by her lifelong journey in self-improvement, Bonnie had a knack for holding space for people when they struggled. Always a champion for the underdog, Bonnie never shied away from challenging people to be their best self. These qualities left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She always strived and wished she could do more to ease the burden of homelessness within our community. Her grandchildren took great delight in Baba’s good–natured sense of humour, generosity and soothing hugs. She loved her animals and was known to secretly share the end of her meal with her furry friend (aka daughter) Sylvie.
Bonnie cherished the friendships from her weekly Tuesday morning prayer group meetings. While not able to attend during her illness, Tuesday mornings remained special to her as she prayed knowing the group was also praying for her at the same time. Many thanks to the Pastoral Team at Corpus Christi Parish who regularly came to visit Bonnie in order for her to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion.
Many thanks to the 4th floor team of WRH Met Campus, and the many homecare PSW’s who cared for Bonnie, all of whom were always so loving and compassionate. Bonnie cherished, respected, and relied on the wisdom and guidance provided over the past several years from Dr. Bill Pignanelli and Robin Chang, our pharmacist.
Cremation has taken place. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic there will be no visitation. A memorial mass and celebration of life to be held at a later date. If you so desire, donations may be made to the Downtown Mission or Canadian Mental Health Association.
