Hospital. Born on September 15, 1945 to the late Bernard Allan Young
and the late Kathleen Margret (Turner) Young, he was affectionately
known as « Junior », « Dad », « Daddy »,
« Uncle » and « Grampy » to his family and
friends. Besides his parents, Junior was predeceased by his sister,
Greta Pratt, father-in-law, Ronald MacKinnon, brother-in-law, Ronald
Allen MacKinnon, Jr. and brother-in-law, John MacKinnon. Junior is
survived at home by the love of his life, his wife of 36 years,
Dorothy Ann Young (MacKinnon). He is also survived by his
mother-in-law, Helen MacKinnon (Fred), Antigonish; his brother, Randy
Young (Mary), Kentville; his « sister », Marlene Dykens
(Wayne), Canning; his seven children, Chris Young, New Minas; Colin
Young (Stephanie), Fall River; Corinne Currie (Jamie), Kentville;
Ernest Young (Amy), New Minas; Ronnie Young (Meghan), New Minas;
Jeremy Young, Calgary and Kathleen Himsl (Kurt), Kentville;
his nine grandchildren, Ryan Walker (Kristy), Kady Walker (Keaton),
Morgan Walker (Travis), Jodie Walker (Dillon), Lochlan Currie

only godson, Christopher MacKinnon (Deanna) and by his numerous
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is also
survived by his beloved dog, Rusty. Junior grew up in Aldershot,
worked as a cook at Camp Aldershot, was an amateur wrestler, an avid
carpenter and a member of the Nova Scotia United Brotherhood of
Carpenters, Local 83. Junior worked on many projects throughout the
Valley, HRM and Nova Scotia, and was proud of his profession. He spent
many years living in Inverness, Cape Breton, where he met and married
his wife, Dorothy. They owned and operated a small business in
Inverness but later decided to move to the Annapolis Valley to raise
their family and build a home. Junior loved to be outside and to work
with his hands and was often known to show his most recent projects to
those he loved and cared about. One of his most prized creations was
the home he built for his beloved wife and family. In the off months,
when not working on carpentry projects, Junior spent the time peddling
fruits and vegetables. He loved his family more than anything and
enjoyed the times when everyone could get home. He could often be seen
out walking the yard, or sitting on the porch with Rusty, who was
always by his side. Junior was known to make daily calls to
« check-in » or just to chat. He had a great sense of
humor and was often telling stories. He will be greatly missed by his
family and friends. His wife and family want to send their sincere
thanks to his family doctor of 47 years, Dr. Robert Gunn, to EHS
Services, the paramedics, ER nurses and staff and Dr. Bruce McLeod for
their efforts, kindness, and support. A private service will be held.
Family flowers only. Donations can be made in Junior’s memory to the
Salvation Army. Funeral arrangements and cremation have been entrusted
to White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
