Barbara Macvey (Foster) Robbins, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2020.
Barbara was born on February 9, 1926 in Montreal to the late A. Douglas and Mary (Adams) Foster. The family later returned to their native New Brunswick where Barbara graduated from high school prior to attending Acadia University. In addition to earning a BSc in Home Economics she met Charles Robbins and they were married on August 27, 1947.While Barbara ‘s priority was raising her family she also completed her studies to become ma registered dietician after which she was hired as the first registered dietician at Yarmouth Hospital. She held this position for several years as well as teaching Nutrition at the School of Nursing.Her second career was as a Home Economics teacher at the Yarmouth Junior High School. Barbara was also active in various Yarmouth organizations such as IODE, the Ladies Auxiliary of the YMCA and the Rotary Club of Yarmouth Easter Seals Clinic. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Charles Robbins and her sister Alta (Foster) Bowen.Barbara is survived by her son David (Meredith) Ottawa and daughter Anne (Blair MacDonald) Yarmouth, as well as grandchildren Daryl Ottawa, Erin (Chris) Toronto and Chris Yarmouth. At her request there will be no visitation or funeral. Interment will be in Mountain Cemetery at a later date. The family wishes to thank Dr David Webster, VON nursing staff and special thanks to Joy and the staff of Yarmouth Heights for their care and compassion.
