Obituary for Mr. Austen Bernard Barnes
It is with great sadness that the family of Austen Bernard Barnes announces his passing after a lengthy illness. Austen passed away peacefully at his home in Wasaga Beach on Oct. 29, 2020. He was 91 years of age. Austen was born in Birmingham England and emigrated to Canada as a young engineer. He participated in Canada’s early space program and was featured in the film, ” Space Pioneers a Canadian Story”. Austen also worked as an editor of an engineering magazine and later began his own business designing and building specialized machines for edging and shaping materials. In addition to his work as an engineer, Austen devoted himself to researching causes and possible cures for cancer. He published an informative book entitled “Conquering Cancer”, which was inspired by a visit to a monastery in China. Recently, Austen worked diligently to protect our local environment and wildlife. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Karen, his children Sherrill, Anne and Tim, his stepchildren Brendan, Terry and Erin and his grandchildren Eres, Daven and Kierran. Austen always believed in himself and in miracles. He truly believed that those who reach, touch the stars. At the moment due to Covid-19 there are no scheduled services for Austen. A celebration of life is pending until further notice.
