A resident of Chatham, Art Pitman passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family at the age of 85.
Born September 9, 1934, he was the son of the late George & Florence (nee Jacobs) Pitman.
Beloved husband of 63 years to Carolyn (nee Brush).
Loving father of Kim Pitman (Elaine), Kathy Copeman (Bruce) and predeceased by daughter, Mary Anne.
Papa of Kyle & Scott Pitman, Emily McKeachnie (Adam), Ben Copeman, David Copeman (April), Thomas Copeman & Jacob Copeman. Predeceased by grandson, Samuel Copeman.
GP of Colton, Zachary & Vincent McKeachnie, Adelynn, Willow, Rowan & Caiden Copeman.
Predeceased by siblings, George Pitman, Anne Challis and sister-in-law, Joyce Stockford (Bill).
Survived by his brother-in-law, Bob Brush (Lana).
Missed by many nieces, nephews & extended family.
Chuck worked for 42 years with Forsyth Printing and in his later years, as a School Bus Driver. He taught many years as a Sunday school teacher at Kendall Street Sunday School and a Scout Leader with Chatham Baptist. Alongside Carolyn, every weekend many happy summers were spent up at their trailer in Ipperwash, spending time with many friends and making life long friendships. He was an avid antique car lover, proud member of the Kent Historic Auto Club, spending many weekends with good friends on their roadtrips. His quick wit, and gentle nature will be deeply missed along with his knack for humorous story telling.
The Pitman family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Lisa, Daphne & Fiona from V.O.N and other caregivers for their compassionate and dedicated care towards Chuck and his family.
Family to receive friends on Friday, February 28th, 2020 at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 2:00 – 4:00 pm & 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A Kent Historic Auto Club walk through will take place at 6:45 pm. A Funeral Service to take place 11:00 am on Saturday at the Funeral Home with burial to follow in Maple Leaf Cemetery.
In memory of Chuck, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or Canadian Cancer Society.
