It is with sadness and love that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Anna Loewen, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12th at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, at the age of 98. Mom was born on April 21, 1921 to Cornelius & Aganetha Giesbrecht, in Plum Coulee, Manitoba. She was the fifth of 9 siblings, 7 sisters and one brother. She was predeceased by her husband Diedrich in January of 1997, and all of her siblings.
She is survived by her children, son Alfred & Eva, grandchildren Michael & Michelle of BC, Daniel & Kate, and Becky and Devin McDonald; daughter Verna & Hector Branconnier, grandchild Laura & Ollie Ehrmantraut; son Rick & Corinne, grandchildren Benjamin and Jessica; daughter Gwen & Andy Voth, grandchildren Kyle & Caty, Ian & Amber, and Dana & Bradyn Wiebe. Nine great-grandchildren (Hannah, Charlie, Trynity, Spencer, Gatlin, Conrad, Thomas, Lincoln & Edyn ) have been added to the family.
Her family was Mom’s greatest source of joy, and she loved nothing more than having her family close around her in her home. She was a loving, gentle and compassionate person who exemplified unconditional love, humility and hospitality in everything she did. She had a great sense of humour and loved practical jokes. She was a person of faith, praying for her family members regularly by name and being involved as a long-time member at Sterling Mennonite Fellowship. She will be remembered and missed by many.
Funeral will be held on Friday, January 17, at 11:00 am at Morrow Gospel Church, 755 St. Anne’s Road. Burial in Sage Creek Cemetery (formerly Mennonite Memorial Gardens) prior to the service at 10:00 am. All are invited to a light lunch reception in the church’s lower auditorium after the service.
The family wishes to thank all who have given cards, flowers, generous acts of service, and messages of support – they are greatly appreciated.
