Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Anna (Anne) Mary Ackerman (nee Lauman) announces her passing at the age of 92 years. She passed away peacefully at the long-term residence which had been her home for the last 8 years.
Anne was born on September 24, 1928 in Macklin, Saskatchewan to parents Alexander and Natalia Lauman. One of eight children, she was raised in the small town of Denzil, Saskatchewan. Anne met and subsequently married Fernie Ackerman in Regina on November 17, 1948. They moved to Belmont Park, a naval subdivision near Esquimalt, BC when Fernie re-enlisted in the Navy, and lived there until they moved to Calgary in 1971 after Fernie’s retirement.
Anne was the proud mother of 5 sons and was devoted to her entire family. She loved being a mom and a homemaker. In addition to keeping an immaculate home, she was an amazing baker, with cookies being her specialty, in particular jam jams. Anne’s family also fondly remembers her delicious “Wacky Cake”. An active member of her church, Anne was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) where she made many close friends. While in Victoria, she worked part time at Government House as a server for special events, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.
A model of strength, kindness and patience, Anne also taught her sons much about compassion. Filled with optimism, hope and positivity, she always had a smile to share with others. Disappointments did not overwhelm her but rather gave her the opportunity to reflect on the good things in her life. Anne was very proud of her incredible memory and her mind remained sharp to the end.
Anne was predeceased by Fernie, her husband of 68 years; her son Tom; her brothers Leo and Ray; and her sisters Lillian, Carol, Rose, Angela, and Agnes. Left to mourn are Anne’s sons Andy (Lori), Terry, Gary (Jennifer), and Lloyd (Cathy); daughter-in-law Deb; sister-in-law Gene; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Anne will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family extends many thanks to the staff of Shawnessy and Bridlewood at the Midnapore Care Centre for their dedication and loving care over the past 8 years.
