Obituary
JOHNSON, Andrew Martin “AJ”
Andrew Martin Johnson “AJ” was born on November 25, 1981 in White Rock, BC, a second child to parents Jill and Martin, and younger brother to his sister Rachel, though it wasn’t long (15 months) until he became an older brother to David. In 1989 the family moved from British Columbia to Saskatoon and the Johnson family never really forgave Jill for the weather. Winter was never Andrew’s friend, although he loved to ski and to sled and to watch his brother play hockey. When the weather was warm, he loved to swim, to fish, and to play ball. He and David used to load their bikes in the family trailer and head to Waskesiu Lake with their Dad for the summer. After he finished school, Andrew attended classes at SIAST and began a welding career. In 2003 he met and fell in love with Shelayne Mickalishen, his only love and mother to their beloved son, Isaac. It was the love for his family that led Andrew to enrol in Teen Challenge where he spent the entire year of 2018 studying to become the man he had been created to be. Upon graduation in January 2019, he worked as a counsellor at Rock Solid, a refuge for addicted teenage boys south of Shaunavon in Saskatchewan. He left Rock Solid on July 27, 2019, the same day that his brother David drowned, and he was never able to get back on his feet. The happiest times in Andrew’s life were spent initially with Shelayne and Isaac, and then in learning about discipleship and serving Jesus at Teen Challenge. He spent many happy hours at The Bridge on 20th Fellowship Centre – in fact, he wanted to spend his life loving and living for Jesus Christ, his Lord and Saviour.
Andrew died suddenly and without warning in St. George’s Anglican Church on Avenue I South in the early morning hours of October 26th. The cause of his death remains unknown. Left to celebrate his life and to mourn his passing are his Son Isaac Johnson (Shelayne Mickalishen), Jill Beatty and Larry Mitzel (Mother and Stepfather), Martin Johnson and Gayle Reed (Father and Stepmother), his sister, Rachel Johnson, and her children Connor, Carter and Cailey Johnson, Aunts and Uncles Gordon and Jane (Beatty) McMurtry, Pam Beatty, Tom Archibald and Suellen Beatty, Greg and Rita (Mitzel) Seipp, Jim and Holly Mitzel, Les and Hilary (Johnson) Kowalski and their families and a multitude of friends.
Once again Andrew is with his beloved brother David, his cousin Jacob, all four grandparents and many friends. Best of all, he has finally found in Jesus the perfection he sought. Because of the COVID 19 Pandemic, a celebration of AJ’s life will be held in the late summer of 2021 and an invitation to join with his family and friends will be placed in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix prior to the event. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Bridge on 20th Fellowship Centre, Teen Challenge Saskatchewan, or Calvary Church would make Andrew happy.
