Obituary of Alvin Atkinson
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Born in Durham, Ontario, on November 14, 1932, Alvin Ritchie Atkinson of Petersburg, formerly of Owen Sound, was in his 89th year.
Beloved husband for 62 years of Audrey (née Becker) Atkinson. Loving dad of Janice Atkinson (Tracey Mitchell), Lynn Atkinson (David Marshall) and Lisa Jobe (Bruce). Cherished Grandpa of Jordan Jesse, Kirsten Jesse (Jesse Volelkner), Taryn Lourie, Maya Lourie (Craig Pineo), Spencer Vanderploeg (Shawn), McKenzie Mitchell-Becker, Paige Mitchell-Becker (Jesse Harvey), Rylee Mitchell-Becker, and Great-Grandpa of Kane and Kolbie Vanderploeg and Lucy Pineo. Dear brother of the late Irene Vaughan (late John), and brother-in-law of late Robert Becker (late Ellie) and late Betty Turnbull (late Stewart). Predeceased by his parents Arthur and Margaret (née Ritchie) Atkinson.
Alvin spent the majority of his time as a furniture finisher in the furniture manufacturing industry at RCA Victor and Nordic furniture. Sought after for his expertise and experience he provided innovative and creative ideas to improve the business processes and product quality. His co-workers always appreciated his witty sense of humour, hard work ethic and positive attitude. He was such a loving loyal husband who put his family first spending his summer holidays taking his girls camping, hiking and canoeing. He was the town social butterfly taking the time to talk to anyone that would listen. He broke the rules we were taught by always speaking to strangers and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. His creativity and passion for learning resulted in his many home improvement projects, beautiful gardening and his daughters school assignments which by the way always resulted in some good marks. For the last 25 years Alvin has been living with a significantly damaged heart. Though damaged his heart was big and strong and it never slowed him down.
His love for his wife Audrey, children, grand-children, great grand-children, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends (you know who you are) kept this ‘Ever Ready Bunny’ going and going. He has left a HUGE hole on our family tree and will be so missed by all those leaves he touched. The world lost the biggest Opera fan and Classical music Conductor wannabe.
