Allan’s Obituary
Allan Anaka of Norquay, SK, passed away at the Kamsack Hospital on January 9, 2020, at the age of 84 years.
Allan was born on November 10, 1935, to Mike and Mae (nee Luchenko) Anaka on the family farm in the Stenen district. Shortly after Allan graduated from Sturgis high school, he started a lifelong career with SaskPower. He was on the crew for several years before settling in Yorkton, SK.
On June 6, 1964, Allan married Eleanor Delores Klimchuk and their sons, Bradley and Todd, were born in Yorkton. In 1967, the family moved to Norquay, SK, where Jana-Lei was born. In Norquay, Allan was the district manager for SaskPower and he and Eleanor loved raising their children in a small town. He was active in the community with Kinsmen, Legion, coaching baseball and hockey. Allan was a volunteer for the Norquay Fire Department and the mayor of Norquay for several years.
Allan retired from SaskPower in 1993 but kept busy for several years with some contract work, farm work and Duck Mountain Ambulance.
Allan loved crosswords, reading the paper, going for coffee with his many friends, and spending time with family and friends at the cabin at Peepaw Lake. Many memories were made fishing, enjoying the outdoors, campfires and the infamous bacon over the open fire. Allan and Eleanor spent a lot of time with their grandchildren, watching them grow. Allan was equally adored by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His gentle ways touched all who knew him.
Allan was predeceased by his loving wife, Eleanor; parents, Mike and Mae; twin brothers in infancy, John and William; brother, Eugene; sister, Shirley; and brothers-in-law, Walter Korchynos and Eugene Yanchuk.
Allan is lovingly remembered by his children: Brad (Connie) of Edmonton, AB, Todd of Edmonton, AB and Jana (Rod) Steciuk of Canora, SK; special friend and partner, Marge Stratechuk and her family; sister, Ilene of Portage La Prairie, MB; brother-in-law, Jerry (Joanne) Klimchuk of Regina, SK; sister-in-law, Beth Anaka of Regina, SK; grandchildren: Dallas (Caitlin) Bernard, Tyler Bernard, Tyneille (Scott) Phelan, Rebecca Anaka, Tiffany (Jeffrey) Anaka, Cassidy Anaka, Brody (Kerrie) Steciuk, and Bailey Steciuk; and great-grandchildren, Mason and Cayde; as well as his extended family and friends.
In Allan’s honour, a Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2020, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Margaret McCallum, officiating. Interment to follow in the Canora Cemetery at a later date.
