Obituary of Alison Davina Helen Beavis
BEAVIS, Alison Davina Helen – Of Toronto, formerly of St Thomas, died Friday, July 3, 2020 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre after a battle with cancer at the age of 59. Beloved daughter of Laurence J. “Laurie” Beavis of St. Thomas and the late Helen (née Burchell) Beavis (2013). She was the sister of Jennifer Beavis of Toronto and Bruce (Kathleen) Beavis of Chicago, IL, and aunt of Katherine. Alison attended Central Elgin Collegiate Institute, St. Thomas, was active in Girl Guiding and earned the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award in Canada. She was a BA graduate of Wilfred Laurier University, was a Chartered Professional Accountant and held an MBA from York University. After a career in accounting and finance, Alison earned a Bachelor of Education from Brock University and launched a second career as an instructor at York and Ryerson Universities. She found her true passion in teaching and felt enormous pride in the achievements of the several hundred students she taught each year. Alison was an avid traveller in Europe and North America and was an active member of the Toronto Guild of Stitchery. Given Alison’s dedication to education, a scholarship has been established in her name. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
