1931-2020
Alfred Richard, 88, formerly of
Moncton, passed away on Friday, January 10th,
2020, after a short illness at the Villa Providence,
Shediac.
Born February
1st, 1931 in Shemogue, NB, he was the son of
the late Alyre and the late Marie (Beaudry) Richard.
He is
survived by his children: Huguette of Fredericton, Danny of
Amherstview, ON and Paulette of Moncton. He is also survived
by 3 grandsons and 3 great- grandsons; his brother, Camille (Gloria)
of Shediac-Bridge; his sisters: Aline Wade (late Joseph) of Whitby,
ON, Jenny and Geraldine Denault (Marcel), both of Ile-Perrot, QC,
along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by
his son, Terry (1962); by brothers: Valmond, Yvon and Oswald and also
by sisters: Doris Melanson, Rita Phillips and
Thérèse Johnson.
Alfred joined the
Canadian Army in 1953, trained as a paratrooper in Germany and served
until 1956. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #
6. He worked for Eastern Bakeries for 35 years whereby he
acquired the name of “Freddy Butternut” for the
bakery’s best selling sliced bread. He was a Route
Salesman until his retirement. He was involved in union
activities for several years with The Bakery, Confectionary and
Tobacco Workers Int. Union. He also served as a
Vice-President for the Moncton District Labour Council.
Alfred was an avid hunter and fisherman and a favorite pastime was fly
fishing for salmon on the Miramichi.
Chapel service and
internment will be held at a later date.
In memory of Freddy,
donations to a Nature Conservation organization would be
appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to
Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe
(857-1901).
