Alex’s Obituary
Alexander Kozmanuik, beloved husband of the late Adonia Kozmanuik of Canora, SK, passed away at the Canora Gateway Lodge on Monday, December 21, 2020, at the age of 98 years.
Alexander Kozmanuik was born August 2, 1922 in the Ormside District to Wasyl and Katie (Kosteniuk) and grew up on the farm with his brothers and sisters. He and his brother, Pete, joined the army in 1943 and returned from overseas after the war in 1946. July of that year, Alex married Adonia Parasiuk and they farmed in the Ormside District until 1961. On the farm, they had four children: Gerald, Larry (died in infancy), Richard, and Lawrence. They left the farm to move to the Okanogan Valley, where Alex started working for Marshall Wells. He was transferred to Lloydminster to manage that store, which he continued until it’s closure. Next, the family moved to Stenen to establish a new business, Stenen Hardware. A number of years later, the store closed and Alex semi-retired. He worked mostly at the locker plant wrapping meat.
In his later years, Alex had a passion for music and particularly for the many times on the road with the Assiniboine Valley Fiddlers and his keyboard.
Alex and Adonia enjoyed the company of many friends and family and always had a place at their table for visitors. Outdoors was a passion for them as they enjoyed fishing, mushroom picking, berry picking and gardening. They lived in Stenen until they moved to Canora in 2011. After Adonia’s passing in 2014, Alex lived independently until 2019, when he became a resident at the Gateway Lodge, where he stayed until his passing on December 21, 2020.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Alex was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Katie (Kosteniuk); his beloved wife of 68 years, Adonia; his siblings: Mary (Bill) Wihnan, Elsie (Andrew) Mirka, Nick (Mary), Pete (Mary), George, Annie (Mike) Bymak, and Mike (Mary); and an infant son at birth.
He is survived by his sons, Gerald (Sonja), Richard (Valerie) and Lawrence (Jen); grandchildren: Crystal (Marlon) Zaleschuk and Alex, Kristopher, Jessica (Cory) Elaesser; great-grandchildren: Austin, Riley, Jackson, Autumn, Echo, and River; great great-grandchildren: Owen and Emmet; and sisters-in-law, Rose and Marianne; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., December 28, 2020, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Petro Tsenov officiating. Interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to a Charity of One’s Choice, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Alex Kozmanuik.
