Minnes, Aidan Gabriel
February 18, 2006 – November 20, 2020
Aidan died in his sleep, peacefully and at home, with his family and beloved service dog Dollar near to him. In sadness, Robert and Jacqueline, Sebastian and Ava Grace share this news of the sudden and unexpected passing of their beloved son and brother, Aidan Gabriel, as a result of epilepsy.
A beautiful and gentle soul, Aidan’s radiant smile, warm hugs, loving nature and insatiable interest in the world of nature and space, along with his extraordinary collection of pop-up and sound books, brought much joy to his family, and to all who shared his special way of being. His infectious laughter and love for jokes left an indelible imprint on people’s hearts. He was always ready to snuggle up with a book and share his love of dinosaurs, animals, and the rainforest with the ones he loved. And there were so many people who loved him.
Sharing in his life, and grieving alongside, are his Nana, Marilyn Minnes, grandmother, Christine van Ierssel, uncles Bruce, Scott, and Marcus, aunts Miloslava and Jennifer, cousins Milu, Tory, Hilary, and Tomas, Great Aunt Diane (Norman), Great Aunt Pam, Ted and Aidan’s Florida family.
Whether in his beach tent in Ocean Park Maine, in his starry room snuggled with Woolo and Dollar, or in his library, Aidan’s curiosity, challenges, unconditional love, and joy in being, made him an amazing teacher helping us to see the world through his eyes and making us the better for it. We are all grateful for being part of Aidan’s life journey.
Thanks to the countless dedicated and kind caregivers, counsellors, educators, and teachers who supported Aidan and kept him safe and smiling over the years and helped fill his thirst for knowledge. Aidan loved to learn and loved people and we are immensely grateful for your help and endless commitment to Aidan’s progress, well-being and learning.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (Autism Program) or Children at Risk Ottawa would be appreciated. A private service will be held on November 28, 2020 with burial at MacLaren Cemetery, Wakefield, to follow beside his Grandfather Douglas R. Minnes.
