We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Nanny and Great Nanny, Agnes Chisholm, at her home in Summerside, NS, surrounded by her family on June 18th, 2020, after a short and brave battle with cancer.
Agnes, also known as “Aggie”, grew up in Frasers Grant, Heatherton. She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Marcella (Cross) Rogers and was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 12 brothers and sisters.
Agnes worked briefly in Brampton Ontario as a waitress before moving back to Frasers Grant, where she met and married the late Donald “X” Chisholm on June 15th, 1953 and raised her family of five children on a small farm on Chisholms Rd. A homemaker and avid baker, she was famous for her bread, cheese and curds. She was a strong lady of deep faith who welcomed all. A “mom” to those close by, Agnes was adored by many. Everyone felt loved around her. She was active in the CWL for many years, well loved in her community, a faithful catholic, and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her grand and great grandchildren, always looking forward to their visits dearly and always ensured a special treat for them.
Agnes loved her home overlooking the water. She looked forward to the many simple details, watching the wildlife, the water, the trees around her home and her family. She spent many hours in multiple vegetable gardens on her property, and in the berry fields. She enjoyed watching a good game of hockey, especially on Saturday nights with the Montreal Canadiens. As of late, she enjoyed passing the time playing cards, coloring, doing puzzles, listening to accordion music and her prayers. Card games were ongoing at her house, if not trying “to beat Raymond”, she had her other children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends filling the notebook on the table with endless scores of card games. If a loss was had, we heard “it’s only a game of cards”. Agnes enjoyed a little glass of wine or a drink of Baileys, usually on a Sunday afternoon, and looked forward to every Holiday for family gatherings. She also very much enjoyed her outings for “fish and chips” from Snow Queen and a good sub from Subway.
To know Agnes, was to know love, laughter and happiness. She was one of a kind, loved by many, and many’s “favorite person”. She was generous, patient, humble, loving and a funny lady. She made us laugh! She was the center and matriarch of her family, though she didn’t like a lot of “attention and fuss”, we all gathered to her, and we are all going to miss her dearly.
Agnes leaves behind her children, Raymond (at home Chisholms Rd), Jerome (Marilyn), Summerside; Mary (late Joseph) MacPherson, Heatherton; Clary (Bonnie), Bayfield; and Marcella (Woody) Howell, Troy; Grandchildren Ryan, Trevor, Shauna, Jennifer, Kelley, Jamie, Bobby, Chris, Ricky, Randy, and Rheanna; great-grandchildren Ethan, Lucas, Tristan, Raya, Haley, Gracie, Emily, Nathalie, Arwen, Olivia, Abigail, Joey, Violet, Avery, Shelby and Cassie; many nieces and nephews, close relatives and dear friends. Agnes was predeceased by her husband Donald “X” Chisholm; her son-in-law Joe MacPherson, her parents and all of her brothers and sisters. May she be greeted with open arms, love, warmth and a deck of cards!
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr Maureen Allen, the VON and Heather Brander in the recent days of Nanny’s illness; their compassion, kindness and care will never be forgotten. The ability to allow “Nanny” to be at home during these trying times was exceptional and unforgettable. A special thanks to Mary and Shauna for making it possible for “Mom” to remain in her home surrounded by her family until her passing. Thank you to Dr Michelle Murphy for the amazing care over the years. Thank you to all those who have visited (from a distance), reached out with cards, phone calls, thoughts and prayers, all so very much appreciated.
Visitation, with social distancing measures in place, will be held Sunday from 2-5 pm in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., family Funeral Mass on Monday with burial to follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
